How To Inject Colour (and Compliments) Into Your Winter Wardrobe

Winter dressing often ends up with us wearing the same uniform everyday.  Well it’s time to inject some serious colour into your cold weather wardrobe with one of my favourite trends: colour blocking.  And while it can be intimidating at first, with a little help from the colour wheel there is no stopping the number of outfits you can create.  Keep reading for my key colour combinations!

LOOK 1: TEAL AND YELLOW

Primary colours are always a striking combination.  That’s why this teal (a shade of blue) and mustard (a shade of yellow) are such a match made in colour heaven.

LOOK 2: PLUM AND CITRON

Plum is such a deep, rich, purple that it can almost act like a neutral.  Adding a bright citron brings a whole new life to the plum.  If the neon is too loud, break it up again with the matching blazer.  Roll up the sleeves to let the colours pop.  To find out why this combo works so well, it’s because these colours are complimentary on the colour wheel, which means they are opposite each other.

LOOK 3: BLUE AND RED/ORANGE

You can even colour block in various shades of the same colour, which would be a monochromatic look.  Here I’ve chosen everything from periwinkle to Robin’s egg.  A more subtle way to colour block is through accessories.  You can also cheat a little by finding a pattern that has both colours, which will do a lot of the heavy lifting for you.

LOOK 4: PINK AND PURPLE

Equally as striking are analogous colours, ie. colours that are beside each other on the colour wheel. This vibrant combo is guaranteed to turn a few heads.
